Serbia, formerly part of Yugoslavia, is fast becoming a popular tourist destination. Many people visit the capital Belgrade and want to find a hostel or cheap hotel to stay and there are many hostels in Belgrade.

Serbia was formerly  state of Yugoslavia but became a separate Republican State in 2006. Situated in South West Europe it is becoming a popular holiday destination for tourists from around the world.

Belgrade is the capital and the largest city in Serbia and is a great place to visit as it is situated where the Sava and Danube rivers meet,  and where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkans.

There are a lot of hostels which offer cheap accommodation in Belgrade but one of the most exciting places to stay is the Arka Barka Hostel. This is a floating house on the River Danube situated in one of Belgrade's most beautiful parks.

It is unique because of its setting on the river and it is about 20 minutes walk from Belgrade City Center (7 minutes by bus) and there are several restaurants, cafes and bars along the river bank close to the hostel.

It has three bedrooms and one bathroom and the maximum number of guests is two,  the minimum stay is one night.

The hostel charges 50 euros a night, 350 euros for a week and 1500 euros for a month. The charge includes:

  • Free breakfast
  • Welcome drink
  • Tax included
  • Free bicycles
  • River trips

Amenities include bed linen and towels, wireless internet, parking, free cleaning, air conditioning.

One of the best hostels in the heart of Belgrade is Hostel 360. It is located in a pedestrian zone Knez Mihailova and tourists have the choice of sleeping in dormitories or have a private room, beds start at $27 a night.

There is a beautiful roof garden and an outdoor terrace area and linen and internet is included in the price, all rooms are air conditioned.

Latest customer reviews say

  1. Very cosy and nice place to stay within ideal location. Thanks, Alexander from Russia.
  2. I have already been two times in Hostel 360 and can say that both the cleanliness and security are outstanding, Location is unbelievable and you can reach everything within five minutes or so. The staff will go out of their way to help you with where to go out, what to see and how to enjoy Belgrade properly. All in all I may say it was certainly a pleasant experience for a small sum of money. Pavlina from Croatia.

If you would rather stay in a hotel than a hostel the Balkan Garni Hotel is excellent value. Opened in 2009 it is part of the Balkan Hotel chain. It is categorized 3 stars but provides the luxury and comfort of 4-star hotels.

The Balkan Garni Hotel is situated at Banova Brdo at Pozeska 67A, Belgrade 1000 and is convenient for the resorts of Kosutnjuk and Ada Ciganlya. It is also near the Belgrade Fair and the hotel runs a shuttle bus to and from there. The bus also transfers guests 24 hours from the airport to the hotel and they can book at the end of their stay to take them to the airport for 13 euros per room.

Air-conditioned rooms are available from £23 per person based on two adults sharing a room and you can see photographs of the hotel and find more details on the Travel Republic website.
